First Community Service Project by the Scouts of Maaenboodhoo

Beach Cleaning Programme conducted by Dh. Maaenboodhoo Scouts today, Friday, 9th October 2015 from 0900-1100hrs . This is their first community service programme after their investiture held on 8th October 2015. In addition to the 55 Scouts, 8 Rovers and leaders, Kudahuvadhoo Constituency MP Mr. Ahmed Amir, School Principal & Group Scout Leader Mr. Ahmed Nazim, Island Council Members, Assistant Director of the Secretriat of Maaenboodhoo Mr. Muaz Adam, Parents, National Scout Council Member Mr. Saif Azhar, Chief Commissioner Mr. Hussain Abdullah (Kendhoo) and General Public took part in this event.

In this event addressing to the participants, Chief Commissioner briefed that The Scout Association of Maldives is one of the first five partners in the Saafu Raajje Initiative lead by the Ministry of Environment and Energy. He also highlighted importance of having a clean island for healthier living and fast growing tourism in the atoll.

Scouting introduced in Dh. Maaenboodhoo

First time Scouting Introduced in Dh. Maaenboodhoo School by Investing 55 Scouts, 8 Rovers and 8 Adults on 8th October 2015. Chief Guest of the Investiture ceremony was Kudahuvadhoo Constituency MP Mr. Ahmed Amir. Maaenboodhoo Scool Principal & Group Scout Leader Mr. Ahmed Nazim, Member of Atoll Council, Vice President of Council Mr. Abdul Rasheed Ibrahim, Asst Director of the Council Mr. Muaz Adam, Chairperson of the School Board Ms. Zulfa Hussain, Parents, Member of National Scout Council Mr. Saif Azhar, Chief Commissioner Mr. Hussain Abdullah (Kendhoo), School Teachers, Parents and other distinguished members of the Island were present to this historical Investiture Ceremony.

This ceremony was commenced with recitation of Holy Quaran and dhivehi translation of aayath.

19 Scouts Graduated from Leave No Trace Trainer Course

Total 19 Scouts and 18 Girl Guides graduated from Leave No Trace (LNT) Trainer Course held from 01-03 October 2015 at Hulhumale’, Maldives. This is the first LNT Trainer Course in Maldives and this course was delivered by the Master Educator on LNT Mr. Shane Earnshaw from Scouts of Western Australia. This tripartite partnership event was a success and shows Scouts and Girl Guides commitment on the environmental education programmes for the youths, corporate entities and general public at large.

Leave No Trace (LNT) is an internationally recognized outdoor skills and ethical awareness program focused on SEVEN PRINCIPLES. Our interests in the long term health of the natural world that we enjoy, and making good decisions to protect our current ecology and environment for generations to come are vital for today’s living.

The 16 hours course was by Scouts of Western Australia who are the champions of LNT program in Australia.

Australia’s only Master Educator and the training team took part in this programme and 7-principles of this program, application strategies, and experience activities that support the teaching of the key 7-principles was well explained to the participants.

At the end of the Trainer Course Certificates and Trainer Badges awarded to the participants of the course.

After the Closing Ceremony, a farewell dinner and friendship circle  hosted by Scouts and Girl Guides.

Australian Scout Contingent in Maldives

19 Western Australian Scouts and Leaders arrived Maldives on 27th September 2015. They will depart from Maldives on 4th October 2015.

Among the 19 Scouts includes Deputy Chief Commissioner of Western Australia. Scouts and Girl Guides jointly welcomed to the contingent at the Airport.

During their stay they will deliver Leave No Trace Trainer Course from 01-03 October 2015 for Scouts and Girl Guides in Hulhumale’. This is the first time Leave No Trace Trainer Course conducted in Maldives although we had Leave No Trace Awareness programmes in Maldives earlier. Also this is first time conducting Leave No Trace Programme by a Master Educator in Maldives.

Then you need to get on board and be one of the first to attend the Maldives, Leave No Trace Trainer Course to be held in Hulhumale’.

Leave No Trace is an internationally recognized outdoor skills and ethical awareness program.

If you are a Leader of Scouts and Guides, Rover or Young Leader it’s your chance to be at the forefront to deliver this inspiring initiative.

The 16 hours course will be run by Scouts of Western Australia who are the champions of Leave No Trace program in Australia.

You will learn firsthand from Australia’s only Master Educator and the training team about the background and 7-principles of this program, application strategies, and experience activities that support the teaching of the key 7-principles.

You will leave the weekend as a badged Leave No Trace certified trainer able to inspire others through activities to protect and preserve our environment.

Tentative Schedule (adjustment may be required during the Programme to meet the requirement):
– 01/10/2015 Thursday: 1600 – 1800hrs and 2000 – 2300hrs.
– 02/10/2015 Friday: 0800 – 1100hrs and 1400 – 1800hrs and 2000 – 2300hrs.
– 03/10/2015 Saturday: 0800 – 1200hrs.

[Note: this is an outdoor training programme. Opening and closing in full uniform and all other times casual dress with scarf].

– Leave No Trace Training of Trainer (Trainer Course).
– An internationally recognized environment programme.
– Teaches people of all ages how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly.
– This is the first time for Leave No Trace Trainer Course in Maldives!
– This training is run by Australia’s champion of this programme and the only Master Trainer in Australia and his team.
– Are you a Scout Leader / Guide Leader Or Rover/Young Leader! This is your chance to take this inspiring initiative and be a trainer.
– You will earn the internationally recognized Leave No Trace badge.

Scouts of Maldives celebrate International Ozone Day by launching the World Scout Environment Badge

The International Ozone Day celebrated 16th September 2015 by the United Nations as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. This year also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, which is an important milestone in the protection of the ozone layer. The theme for the celebration of the anniversary and this year’s Ozone day is “30 years of healing the ozone together” and the slogan is “Ozone: All there is between you and UV”.

 

On this occasion The Scout Association of Maldives launched the ‘World Scout Environment Badge’ along with the Maldives Scout Environment Programme Guidelines. This book includes a guide to implementing the World Scout Environment Programme in the Maldives and the framework for the World Scout Environment Badge with aims, educational objectives, activities and award process. The detailed guide will enable Cubs, Scouts and Rovers to take up the challenge to complete the World Scout Environment Badge.

 

The launching took place at a special ceremony organized by The Ministry of Environment and Energy, Maldives, to celebrate the International Ozone Day on 16th September 2015 at Marble Hotel. State Minister, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretary, Director General and Senior Staff of the Ministry of Environment and Energy were present at the Ceremony. Also representatives from various other stakeholders including Deputy Vice Chancellor of The Maldives National University (MNU) Dr. Muaviath Mohamed; Assistant Resident Coordinator of UNDP Mr. Inaz Mohamed; Kooddoo Fisheries Pvt Ltd and representative from Maldives Customs Service were present at the Ceremony.

 

Hon. Mr. Abdul Matheen Mohamed, Minster of State for Environment and Energy, chief guest of the ceremony inaugurated the World Scout Environment badge and the Maldives Scout Environment Programme Guidelines.

In his address the Hon. State Minister acknowledged and appreciated the work carried out by The Scout Association of Maldives in the past decades contributing to raise environmental awareness and education through its large network of young people. He further encouraged Scouts to keep carrying out the important work and ensured support and assistance from The Ministry of Environment and Energy to the Scouts.

 

Speaking at the ceremony Mr. Hussain Abdullah (Kendhoo), Chief Commissioner of The Scout Association of Maldives highlighted the role Scouts play in raising environmental awareness in the country and the continued commitment of the Association towards carrying out and implementing programmes and activities for the conservation and protection of environment in the country.

ADh. Omadhoo: First Introductory Training Course for Adults in Scouting

First Introductory Training Course for Adults in Scouting was hosted by 6th ADh Scout Group, ADh. Omadhoo School from 31st July to 1st August 2015. This is the first Introductory Course hosted by a Scout Group in Maldives under the new opportunities opened for the Scout Groups by the current leadership with the aim to provide necessary training for the leaders delivering youth programme across the country.

This Training Course is opened for the existing adult leaders and newly joined leaders. Total 22 participants from 3 Scout Groups successfully completed this training programme.

The Scout Association of Maldives Website Launched

The new website for The Scout Association of Maldives (scout.mv) has been launched at a national level event on the 27th February 2015 at GDh. Thinadhoo by the chief guest, Mr. Saudulla Hilmy, MP of GDh. Thinadhoo Uthuru Dhaairaa.

This function is also joined by the Principal of Thinadhoo School Mr. Mohamed Ajeeb, Principal of GDh. AEC Ms. Zeema Abdulla, Principal of Aboobakuru School Ms. Fathimath Shareef, and Principal GA. Dhaandhoo School Mr. Shifaaz Mohamed.
