25th World Scout Jamboree

1st to 12th August 2023

The World Scout Jamboree is the largest scouting event organised by the Scout Movement, gathering up to 50,000 people from all over the world. It is above all an educational event to promote peace and understanding. The World Scout Jamboree includes a wide variety of activities and also places great importance on the everyday life and interaction on the campsite. 
The World Scout Jamboree takes place every four years in a different country.

HISTORY OF THE WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE

Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement, invited young people from all over the World and wanted them to exchange cultures and enjoy adventure. It was in 1920 that the first World Scout Jamboree was realized, held in the Olympia halls in Kensington, London. 

In 1991, the 17th World Scout Jamboree was successfully held in 1991 in Goseong, Gangwon-do with 19,093 participants from 135 countries under the theme of “Many Lands, One World.”

“Draw your Dream!” expresses the desire of the members of the Scout Movement to transform the 25th World Scout Jamboree into their own festival and to grow their dreams through the event. SaeManGeum will be shaped into a spacious recreational ground, giving young Scouts from around the world an opportunity to purse their hopes and dreams throughout the Jamboree.

The logo for the 25th World Scout Jamboree symbolises the gathering of scouts from around the world who will come together under one tent in Korea to enjoy the jamboree experience. The logo is designed in the shape of traditional Korean tiled roof(Giwa-jibung) and tents, and embodies the spirits of joyful festivals that take place in Korea.

Scouting for Life

Many of the programme features will engage young people in developing leadership and life skills through Scouting activities, and will challenge participants to learn about global issues and becoming active citizens. These programme elements will incorporate Scouting’s values and methods, as well as ideas around global citizenship education and education for sustainable development.

Smart and Scientific

The Jamboree programme will use the latest technology to enable participants and contingents to connect, stay up-to-date with information, and take part in variety of activities through the official Jamboree app. Participants will be able to experience the future through everything from robot technology to virtual reality. A specific stream of the programme will focus on STEAM skills, offering young people the chance to join in activities and learn about the fields of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

Safe & Secure

The Jamboree programme will be designed to prevent and respond to communicable diseases, natural disasters, and other emergencies, while providing safety education programmes developed by Korea Scout Association. The “Disaster Safety Programme” will not only improve the safety response ability of participants, but will also help them grow into citizens who can act as responders in the case of emergencies.

Sustainability

Together with global, regional and national partners, the Jamboree programme will be comprised of activities that engage young people in learning about the Sustainable Development Goals and taking action for peace and sustainable development in their communities. Through the Better World Tent and Global Development Village, Scouts will learn how to connect with nature, create a culture of peace and dialogue, promote diversity and inclusion, and more.

ACT: Adventure, Culture, tradition

The Jamboree programme will offer various adventure activities that use the environment around SaeManGeum, including the mountains, rivers and seas to enable Scouts to connect with and discover nature. The event will also engage participants in cross-cultural exchange to experience the best of Korean culture and tradition from K-pop music to Bibimbap food to the Hangul alphabet, and much more.

Various award programmes

Award programmes such as the Hwarang Awards, Clean Awards and Friendship Awards will motivate participants to participate in a variety of course activities at the Jamboree.

Jamboree Site - SaeManGeum

The 25th World Scout Jamboree will take place on a brand new site in SaeManGeum. The campsite is flat and overlooks the sea on one side and features a view of the mountains. It is situated in close proximity to the beautiful Byeonsanbando National Park (Byeonsan Peninsula) located on the West Coast of Jeollabuk-do. The site is about 8.8㎢ and spreads out on a wide piece of land measuring 6.2km by 1.7km (based on the longest points).(35’42”N 126’35”E).

Eligibility

Participants:

  • Participants must have been born between 22 July 2005 and 31 July 2009 (14 - 18 Years), and only Scouts are eligible to participate.

  • Have completed Scout Standard.

IST, CMT:

If you are older on the given date, you may be able to apply to become a member of the International Service Team, Contingent Management Team or a unit leader.

Cost

$1,500 - Including Jamboree fee, travel to and from Maldives to Korea, transportation between Incheon International Airport to Jamboree site and back, insurance, Contingent Admin fee.


Jamboree fee can be paid to The Scout Association of Maldives via Installments.

  • January 2022, February 2022 - $150

  • February 2022 to April 2023 - $75

  • May 2023 to July 2023 - $50

Refund Policy

  • Administration fee paid to The Scout Association of Maldives and all payments made to the jamboree's host country, airlines and insurance companies will not be refunded.

  • Once these fees have been deducted participants may be eligible for a refund of the remaining fees paid.

The Scout Association of Maldives is looking for creative talents to design the contingent logo for the Maldivian Contingent participating in the World Scout Jamboree. The design of the logo submitted should be appealing to the youth and best represent the spirit of scouting, Maldivian culture and local environment and befitting to the theme of the Jamboree.

Eligibility:

  • Contingent Logo designing competition is open for youth members registered in The Scout Association of Maldives and Maldives Girl Guides Association between the age 14 - 25 Years.

Design Requirement:

  • The Design should be in a tent similar to the logo of the 25th World Scout Jamboree.

  • The Logo should be designed in accordance with the logo guideline of 25th World Scout Jamboree.

The Following design elements should be included in the logo:

  • Maldivian National Flag

  • The wording "Maldivian Contingent"

  • Maximum 7 colors can be used

  • All designs submitted must be accompanied by a design rationale or a design concept

Judging Criteria:

  • Creativity - 30%

  • Aesthetic - 30%

  • Adaptability - 20%

  • Design Rationale - 20%

The Scout Association of Maldives will appoint a panel of Judges to select the best Logo.

Winners of the Competition

  • 1st Place - Jamboree Fee ($300) will be sponsored by the association

  • 2nd & 3rd Place - Admin Fee & Insurance will be sponsored by the Association

Usage of Logo

Once the logo is selected The Scout Association of Maldives reserves the right to use, store, copy, display, advertise, transmit, transfer, distribute, reproduce, create derivative works of, incorporate into other works, publically perform and/or publish the submitted artwork in any media for any purpose whatsoever.

The Scout Association of Maldives retains the right to use the final logo, or any versions of the logo created in the process, within printed and online portfolios, including promotional materials such as newsletters and advertisements. The logo design is intended for use in all publications, collaterals and artworks produced by the Association such as:

  • Website

  • Social Media

  • Banner, flyers, posters and other PR Materials

  • Backdrops

  • Merchandise

Submission Instructions

  • Participants are required to submit the Digital Artwork or illustration in ".eps, .ai, .cdr,".

  • Participants are also required to submit the design in high resolution ".jpeg , .png, .tiff".

  • All file should be named (name and scout group), zipped and sent to international@scout.com.mv

All submissions should contain atleast one vector file and an image file.

This solidarity programme is supported by Korean government and there are some strict policies related to it. In accordance with its accounting system, registered beneficiaries cannot be changed. Therefore, NSOs should pay close attention to who is selected and registered in the process. After selected individuals return to their country, the President or International Commissioner of the NSO is requested to send a signed letter to the Organizing Committee to confirm their safe return. 

Beneficiary : 1 Leader and 9 Scouts
- 1 Leader should be able to fluently communicate in English and capable of taking care of young people.
- 9 Scouts in financial difficulties who demonstrate good Scout spirit. 

Benefit  : A round-trip flight ticket and Jamboree fee
