Hello, My name is Fathimath Iba Nazim

Candidate for Regional Youth Representative

WHO AM I ?

My Scouting journey began in 2017, and since then, Scouting has shaped my leadership, values, and passion for empowering young people. What started as a small step as an Assistant Patrol Leader, quickly grew into larger responsibilities, opportunities, and challenges that helped me discover the leader within me.
Over the years, I have taken on multiple roles within Scouting, including:
Vice Chairperson of the Scout Youth Council of The Scout Association of Maldives elected at the 5th National Scout Youth Forum – amplifying youth voices at the national level.
Member of the National Executive Committee of The Scout Association of Maldives – participating in high-level decision-making and governance of the Movement.
Crew Leader of Muhyiddin Rover Crew – guiding and mentoring fellow Rovers.
Youth Representative on the Scout Association of Maldives’ Youth Program Committee – contributing to the design and direction of the Youth Programme.
Project Leader of Muraka Kudhin (since 2019) – leading one of the most impactful environmental initiatives in the Maldives.
Each of these positions has given me the platform to advocate for youth perspectives, push for meaningful change, and contribute to strengthening Scouting both nationally and internationally.
Fathimath Iba Nazim has grown into a true leader within Scouting; dedicated, resilient, and deeply committed to empowering young people. Her work with the Muraka Kudhin Project and her leadership roles nationally and internationally reflect not only her passion but also her ability to turn vision into action. I am confident that as Regional Youth Representative, she will ensure that the voices of Scouts across the Asia-Pacific Region are heard, valued, and represented with integrity.

Chief Commissioner, The Scout Association of Maldives

MY VISION

I am applying for the position of Regional Youth Representative (RYR) because I believe youth involvement should not be limited to participation – it must extend into real decision-making and leadership.
My vision for the role is rooted in three core priorities:
Youth Leadership in Decision-Making (YLiDM):
I want to ensure youth voices are not symbolic or tokenistic, but have genuine influence in shaping the policies, priorities, and strategies of Scouting at the regional level.
Social Impact & Advocacy:
Scouts across the Asia-Pacific Region are creating meaningful change in their communities. I want to empower Scouts to measure, communicate, and amplify the impact of their projects, just as we did with Muraka Kudhin, so that local initiatives inspire regional and global movements.
Partnerships for Scouting:
Strengthening collaboration—both within National Scout Organizations and with external partners—will bring more opportunities, resources, and platforms for young people to thrive and lead.
Lorem Ipsum
If elected as Regional Youth Representative, I will:
Work to make regional opportunities more accessible to all young people.
Promote and support youth-led initiatives at all levels.
Ensure that underrepresented National Scout Organizations are seen, heard, supported, and included.
Above all, I aim to serve as an approachable advocate-someone who listens carefully, acts decisively, and inspires positive change across our diverse and vibrant region.

What Motivated Me ?

My motivation to run for Regional Youth Representative comes from my own Scouting journey. Scouting has given me countless opportunities to grow, lead, and discover strengths I never imagined I had. From taking on leadership roles to representing the Maldives internationally, these experiences have shaped me into the person I am today.
But alongside my own growth, I’ve also seen the gaps. I’ve seen how some young people, especially from smaller National Scout Organizations – don’t always get the same chances, recognition, or platform to share their voices. This imbalance motivates me to step forward.
I want to make sure those voices are not only heard but represented in decision-making. Every Scout, no matter where they come from, deserves to feel that they belong at the table. For me, this is not about a title, it’s about giving back to Scouting and ensuring that the opportunities I was fortunate to have are open to every young person across our region.
This belief directly shapes my vision: a Scouting movement where youth leadership is genuine, inclusivity is non-negotiable, and every young person-whether from a large or small NSO feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

MY SCOUTING ADVENTURE

Scouting has opened doors for me both nationally and internationally, giving me experiences that have shaped my worldview and strengthened my belief in the power of youth leadership.
At the 24th World Scout Jamboree, I participated as a young Scout, experiencing firsthand the global fellowship of Scouting.
At the 25th World Scout Jamboree, I returned as a Unit Leader, taking on the responsibility of guiding and supporting fellow Maldivian Scouts on an international stage.
I represented the Maldives at the APR Sub-Regional Scout Youth Forum, contributing to discussions on youth leadership and regional cooperation.
I served as a Summer Short-Term Staff at Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland, where I worked in both programme facilitation and operational support—including catering services. This role allowed me to welcome and assist Scouts from around the world, strengthening my cross-cultural communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
More recently, I led the 4th National Rover Gathering 2025 under the theme “Knots of Friendship”, bringing together Rovers nationwide to share knowledge, build connections, and strengthen the Rover spirit.
These experiences have taught me that Scouting is more than activities, it is a movement that builds bridges, creates leaders, and empowers young people to contribute to society both locally and globally.

“Muraka Kudhin”, My Passion !

One of the most defining parts of my Scouting journey has been leading the Muraka Kudhin Project, which I have been part of since 2019.
This initiative began with a mission: to restore and protect the only easily accessible reef in the Greater Malé region. Together with an international Scout group and local businesses and organizations, our project has made significant contributions to marine conservation while also building the capacity of young Scouts.
Our team’s work has included:
Monitoring coral health and documenting changes in reef conditions.
Maintaining coral nurseries to support reef growth.
Relocating corals that were under threat from coastal development.
Training young Scouts in diving, snorkeling, reef monitoring, and data collection.
Through Muraka Kudhin, 6 Scouts, including myself, became PADI-certified divers, while many others gained hands-on experience in marine science and conservation.
The project was internationally recognized by WOSM as one of the five most inspiring environmental projects worldwide (mid 2021), reflecting both its ecological and educational value.
For me personally, Muraka Kudhin has been transformative. It boosted my confidence, taught me resilience in the face of climate challenges, and proved how local action can inspire global change. It continues to motivate me to advocate for youth-led environmental and social initiatives that create meaningful impact.

WHAT ELSE DO I DO ?

Beyond my Scouting life, I am equally committed to my education and professional career.
Completed first year of Law studies. My academic journey is helping me build critical skills in research, analysis, advocacy, and critical thinking—skills that complement my work in Scouting and leadership.
Professionally, I work in logistics as a Cargo Clearance Officer at a major Maldivian resort and hospitality company. In this role, I am responsible for managing clearance, coordination, and compliance processes, ensuring the smooth flow of goods and supplies.
Balancing my studiescareer, and Scouting responsibilities has strengthened my adaptability, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities. These are the qualities I will carry with me into the Regional Youth Representative role, ensuring I can serve effectively and responsibly.
