The National Cub Rally & Pre-Cub Meet 2024 in Hulhumalé was a shining example of Scouting’s adaptability and spirit. Held on November 30, 2024, the event faced unexpected challenges due to rain and strong winds but overcame them with teamwork and determination, ensuring a memorable experience for over 400 Pre-Cubs and 1,500 Cubs from 26 Scout Groups.
Originally planned to start at 9:00 AM at Hulhumalé Central Park, the weather forced the Organizing Team to relocate participants to Brightway International School, with Ghaazee School serving as a hub for some activities, thanks to support from the Ministry of Education. With the remarkable teamwork and dedication of Rovers, Senior Scouts, Leaders, and Volunteers, the event was seamlessly reorganized and began by 2:30 PM, delivering a smooth and memorable experience for all participants.
A Collaborative Effort
The event was made possible through the incredible collaboration of various partners. The Housing Development Corporation served as the Venue Partner, while Dhiraagu, the Digital Partner, ensured seamless internet connectivity. Special thanks go to the Malé City Council, Led Visuals, Maldivian Red Crescent, Shady Cabin, and the Maldives Police Service, which played a vital role in securing event locations and coordinating the safe movement of participants between venues.
Dynamic Zones of Engagement
The event unfolded across four distinct zones, offering participants diverse opportunities for learning, exploration, and fun:
Cultural Zone
This zone highlighted Maldivian traditions and international culture. Activities included Boduberu and Thaarajehun by the Maldives National Defense Force, the strategic game Thin Hama, Maldivian fishing practices, and cultural experiences like Koraa and Ohvalhu Gondi. A Chinese traditional stall by Villa College and engaging folk storytelling further enriched the experience.
Community Zone
This zone focused on civic engagement and partnerships, with stalls from the Society for Health Education, Maldives Police Service, Olive Ridley, and Women in Tech. Scouts learned about safety, health, and environmental conservation, alongside exploring road safety, knotting skills, and the significance of national symbols.
Adventure Zone
Excitement awaited Scouts in this zone with physical challenges like the Monkey Bridge, Double Rope Bridge, River Cross, and Swinging Rope. These activities, designed and run by the Leaders, Senior Scouts and Rovers of the 14th Malé Scout Group, tested resilience and teamwork. Fun games like Tic Tac Toe and Bean Bag Throw added an element of playfulness to the zone.
Art & Craft Zone
Creativity thrived with activities such as cupcake making by the Chefs Guild of Maldives, shirt printing, bead bracelet crafting, and vegetable printing. Cubs and Pre-Cubs also explored paper weaving, mosaic art, and origami, showcasing their artistic talents.
Celebrating Teamwork and Dedication
The seamless relocation and reorganization of the event showcased the remarkable teamwork and dedication of Rovers, Senior Scouts, Leaders, and Volunteers. Their tireless efforts turned a potentially challenging situation into a day of joy, learning, and connection for the young participants.
The Journey Continues
The Hulhumalé rally was part of a series of events celebrating the spirit of Scouting across the Maldives. The next rallies are set for December 7, 2024, in Addu City and Kulhudhuffushi City, bringing more opportunities for young Scouts to explore, learn, and grow.
